SAN Storage
We design Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) for traditional workflows using primary tier solid state disks and high availability disks, down to lower cost tiers that includes cloud and object storage disks.
NAS Storage
Backup is day to day operations: backup of existing projects (project files and media), server snapshots/databases, and backup of tier 2 to tape if required for quick local restore (Spectralogic’s perspective). This is when nearline tier 2 comes into play, or tape backup with quick restore – accessing data in a matter of minutes and hours, not days.
Backup/Deep Archive
Archive is the backup of data that can be stored long term. Sometimes these assets are stored for a disaster and never used again – The bottom of the ocean theory. Sometimes they need to be stored on tape for posterity, and sometimes they are kept in local or remote tape libraries or Glacier via tape. This data has a restore time that is measured in days and is considered not so critical for operation.
Disaster Recovery
Disaster Recovery is the art of spreading data around to as many sources as possible to prevent catastrophic data loss or a ransomware attack. Sometimes deep tape archive can be grouped in this category via Glacier, but the idea is to have remote data sites, preferably in different states/regions, to prevent the loss of data with protection against ransomware encryption. Recovery times depends on budget, business case use and required restore times.
Object Storage
Object Storage is non-disruptive, independent expansion of compute, network, and storage resources that meets the growing needs for billions of objects and exabytes of capacity. In object storage, the data is broken into discrete units called objects and is kept in a single repository, instead of being kept as files in folders or as blocks on servers. Each object typically includes the data itself, a variable amount of metadata, and a globally unique identifier.

Perform a full test for all fiber-optical lines with a fluke tester and submit a detailed report with capabilities and repair status for all lines.
