There is always, always an app for that. GoPro already has applications that allow you to take basic control of your camera, a necessary feature for the newer and smaller Session, but the current incarnations don't live up to their name. Thankfully, GoPro is a constantly innovating company, and the new GoPro mobile app will come with enhanced functionality which enables the creative souls who use their products to do the same.
The primary benefits of the new app will be the ability to perform on-site video editing and sharing to e-mail or your social media site of choice. While the editing is unlikely to compete with desktop solutions backed by powerful graphics cards, it would still be useful to have the option of trimming down bulky videos on the spot. Sharing your found footage faster will be immensely useful for journalists and others who need to get their films out without returning to base camp, but it's hard to say just how beneficial the app will be until it's released. Making the most of your films may still require a dedicated workstation, but more mobile options are definitely welcome.
The new application is currently in the final testing stage, and you can expect to be able to download it by the end of the summer (or winter, for those of you in the Southern hemisphere). With a new Cloud service in the alpha stage and a content licensing service scheduled in the pipeline, GoPro seems determined to make itself a one-stop shop for videographers of all skill levels and budget sizes.
